Ubangi International Transit Platform

Project Description

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Build a modern road to connect the town of Gemena to the town of Zambi, downstream of Yumbi on the Ubangi River. The geographical positioning of the PTI-SUB site on Zambi is justified by the fact that this riverbank town is just upstream from the city of Betou in Congo-Brazzaville. Zambi is also suitable for barges and is an ideal place to build a bridge to connect the two banks of the Ubangi River.

Project outline:

  • Build forest road routes to link the towns of Zongo and Libenge to that of Zambi in the long term
  • Redevelop existing roads or develop new ones
  • Source barges for Ubangi River crossings
  • Build a bridge between the town of Zambi (South-Ubangi) and the opposite bank, with the junction positioned 5km or 10km upstream from Betou (Congo Brazzaville), to connect with the CEMAC road network
