PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Preparation of a feasibility study, detailed industrial development plan and project implementation for KMIIIIA Special Economic Zone

PROJECT LOCATION:

Sikhuphe, Lubombo Region

LEAD AGENCY/ PROJECT PROMOTER:

Eswatini Civil Aviation Authority (ESWACAA)

CURRENT STATUS/ STAGE OF PROJECT:

An SEZ Strategy has just been completed and approved by the ESWACAA Board of Directors.

ACTIONS REQUIRED/ IMPLEMENTATION ARRANGEMENTS/ CONTRACT TYPE:

Development partners are required to assist with technical and financial support for project implementation and identification of SEZ Operators (business enterprises) to operate and produce from the SEZ.

AVAILABILITY OF PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDIES, FEASIBILITY STUDIES, AND OTHER STUDIES:

There is a need for the preparation of pre-feasibility and feasibility studies.

ESTIMATED COST OF THE PROJECT:

EUR 1.5 billion (One billion, five hundred thousand Emalangeni)

INVESTMENT REQUIRED

EUR 1.2 billion (One billion, two hundred thousand Emalangeni)

PROJECT FINANCIAL POSITION:

The project requires financial support, and ESWACAA has also committed to give it priority in its annual budgets.

PERIOD OF IMPLEMENTATION:

5 years

REMARKS:

The development of the airport precinct into an SEZ aims to create a conducive environment for industrialization through the development of specialized industries to foster high investment, increased exports for national economic growth and job creation.

This will assist in maximizing the cargo export potential of the KMII International Airport and allow ESWACAA to increase its financial sustainability and revenue base by developing non-aeronautical revenue streams and thus reducing its dependence on the central government.
