PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Afyaclick is a web and mobile-based software developer in Burundi. It is a digital marketplace and communication platform for healthcare professionals, healthcare seekers and pharmaceutical dealers.

Afyaclick was developed to reduce the cost of healthcare delivery in sub-Saharan Africa by enabling healthcare providers and pharmaceutical dealers to move from manual to digital procedures for service delivery and pharmaceutical sales, while giving consumers access to medical products and services on their mobile phones.

The project intends to improve business relations in the regional healthcare industry and between local and international stakeholders. Afyaclick, originally called Santé Priorité, was listed among the top 10 digital innovative projects capable of improving the quality of healthcare in Africa in a challenge organized in 2015 by France Médias Monde in partnership with Microsoft, Facebook, Orange and e-health experts. It has received mentorship and seed funding from Nigeria’s Tony Elumelu Foundation.

REMARKS:

The next step consists of giving other East African countries access to Afyaclick services without the need for internet or smartphones by integrating the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Short Messaging Service Centre (SMSC) in partnership with telecoms and mobile money companies.
