Edible Oil Industrial Park
Project Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Sudan is a major oilseeds producer. The peanut crop is the most important oilseeds crop, alongside sesame and sunflower crops. Peanut kernels contain between 44% and 56% of oil for human consumption and 22-30% of proteins, on the basis of dry weight.
Sudan is not self-sufficient in the production and consumption of edible oils. It imports thousand tons of animal and vegetable oils annually. Annual consumption is estimated to be about 150,000 tons of local production. However, the country imports annually between 50,000 and 80,000 tons of crude oils and refined oils and up to 250,000 tons of edible oils.
The project consists of the following units:
- A solvent extraction unit with production capacity of 60,000 tons/year for local and international markets.
- 10 small units for crude oil with a production capacity of 10 tons/day for each unit.
- 10 small units for the production of purified oil with a production capacity of 5 tons/day for each unit.
- 1 unit for the production of vegetable margarine with production capacity of 50,000 tons/year.
- 2 units for the production of compressed charcoal.
- Laboratory and research centre for peanuts and oil
- Availability of raw materials – the production of groundnuts increased by 71.2% from 1,032 thousand tons to 1,767 thousand tons due to an increase in the cultivated area.
- National production of groundnuts in 2019 was estimated to be 2.88 million tons, about 2% lower than 2018. In the traditional rain-fed sector, production was 2.59 million tons in 2018 and 2.55 million tons in 2019.
PROJECT LOCATION:
The establishment of an industrial park for peanut oil extraction is planned near Al-Rahad city in north Kordofan state.
ESTIMATED COST OF THE PROJECT:
USD 45 million
