Spinning, Weaving and Textile Mill
Project Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Cotton Ginners Limited owns a spinning, weaving and textile mill in Blantyre. Malawi has invested significantly in the cotton industry, particularly in ginneries. However, Cotton Ginners Limited, which already has three ginneries, would like to develop the value chain. It has a sister company that crushes cotton seed into lint and makes laundry soap. The company hopes the project will enable it to add further value to its lint.
With a population of over 17 million people, Malawi has 400,000 cotton farmers who produce not less than 100,000 MT of seed cotton in an area of 130,000 Ha. About 39,000 MT of lint is produced per annum, of which just 5% is used by a local manufacturer, leaving 95% for export.
