Creation of Organic Farming Territories
Project Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project is led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to promote organic farming in Madagascar and increase its market share of exports.
Main activities:
- To delimit, create and certify territories for organic farming
- Put in place an innovative certification system
- Set up a relationship between the public and private sectors to implement these specific areas and promote profitable and sustainable agribusiness investment within it.
PROJECT LOCATION:
At least 50,000 Ha of organic farming territory to be set aside in the East, North and South of Madagascar as a pilot project
LEAD AGENCY/ PROJECT PROMOTER:
Project led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock in partnership with SYMABIO (Malagasy association of stakeholders in organic farming) and promoted by The Economic Development Board of Madagascar (EDBM)
CURRENT STATUS/ STAGE OF PROJECT:
AFD support being implemented to carry out the feasibility study and the mobilization of stakeholders for the creation of the pilot territory in the east
PIC/WB to set up two territories in the north and south of Madagascar and seek investment in these areas
ESTIMATED COST OF THE PROJECT:
USD 300 million
INVESTMENT REQUIRED:
The required investment amount depends on the agribusiness activities to be created inside the zone. The investor needs to define activities and budget to set up his business.
