PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Frigorifico Boran Foods PLC, a subsidiary of the Allana Group, has capacity to slaughter 3,000 cattle and 9,000 sheep and goats daily.
This Indian company represents an investment of USD 80 million. The company decided to invest in Ethiopia because the country has the highest population of livestock on the continent, and the fourth largest livestock population in the world. Core products include chilled and frozen goats and sheep as well as cattle carcasses.
The company has received an authentication certificate to export processed meat from its recently built abattoir at Adami Tulu, 170km from Addis Ababa.
Local value addition in the meat sector is very important for jobs and foreign exchange and currently the company is exporting more than USD 1.5 million of meat.
