Project Description
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project is for livestock processing and marketing in the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Project (LUSIP) in Eswatini. It comprises the construction of an abattoir and establishing a cattle feedlot to be the anchor supplier of the abattoir. The abattoir will slaughter 25 beef animals and 50 small animals per day (goats and pork) with the potential for added capacity.
The objective is to support the commercialisation of the beef, pig and goat industry in Swaziland through establishing an integrated financially profitable and sustainable livestock product processing operation that is based on the active participation of the farmers.

CURRENT STATUS/ STAGE OF PROJECT:
- Currently providing technical assistance for this project to farmers.
- The project is being assisted technically to set up its operations, for example securing land for an abattoir to be constructed and sourcing livestock.
