Development of Seed Industry
Project Description
Burundi’s seed sector is critical to its economic development. More than 90% of the population’s food and income are from agriculture. However, the availability of seeds of sufficient quality and quantity is a major challenge.
Burundi Agriculture Science Institute (ISABU) is tasked with producing enough good quality seed to meet the national need. Research units of ISABU have set themselves the objective of producing first-generation strain and pre-basic animal and crop seeds but are not yet producing enough.
