Construction of Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Inkisi River
Project Description
The Inkisi hydroelectric sites in the DRC are at Bemba, Sanga2, Kimbungu, and Kilenfu on the Inkisi River in Kongo Central Province, in the west of the country. They have a combined potential of 185MW and are situated less than 150km from Kinshasa, which has a power deficit of about 1,000MW.
The project aligns with public policies set out in:
- The Government Action Program (2024–2028), which aims to develop electricity production capacity
- The National Strategic Development Plan (PNSD 2024–28), which aims to guarantee reliable access to electricity for all social groups
- The Master Plan for Industrialization of the DRC by 2040. This project is a high priority, serving as a key lever for industrialization and accelerating economic growth through access to clean, reliable, and competitive energy.
